Multiple Teams · Softball to host 7th ranked Yorktown Thursday

Monroe Central does have a softball team – it just hasn’t been able to get on the field much lately after cancellations with Hagerstown, Shenandoah and Cowan.

But Thursday it’s back to work for the Lady Bears as they host Class 3A 7th ranked Yorktown.

Looking at the early rankings, which don’t always carry a lot of weight, MC will definitely be battle-tested. And looking at the new sectional field it is probably a good thing.

Just in the new sectional field: 5th ranked Frankton (3-0); 8th ranked Wapahani; 11th ranked Lapel; 17th ranked Shenandoah. And Alexandria is already 3-0. Probably one of the toughest sectional fields around.

Also on the upcoming schedule next Tuesday at Class A 18th ranked Tri; Wednesday hosting Class 2A 4th ranked Elwood; and the very next night hosting 17th ranked Shenandoah. Others to watch for Centerville is ranked 16th in 2A and Union County is honorable mention.

The Lady Bears cranked out 18 runs in their opener and have several solid pitching candidates – so it should be a fun and challenging season.
