Monroe Central’s boy’s varsity track team made school history with the Class B victory at the Muncie Central Relays last weekend.
According to Coach Preston proctor no previous Monroe Central team has ever won this prestigious invitational. The Bears won 5 championships and scored in every entered event and was the only school in either class to score over 100 points.
Individual champions were Andrew Pierce in the 100 m and Nick Mitchell in the 300 m hurdles.
The 4 x 100 relay team of Tyler Writtenhouse, Braydon Earls, Josh Randall and Pierce took first, while the team of Writtenhouse, Pierce, Randall and Issac Smithson won the Sprint Medley relay.
The team of Mitchell, Dalton Winans, Writtenhouse and Smithson won the meet with a season best time of 3:39 in the 4 X 400 relay.
Season bests were turned in by Tristan Huddleston, Riley Moulton, Shane Kear, Zaine Pollard-Kennedy, Jackson Franklin, Isaac Smithson, Nick Mitchell and freshman Conner Miller.
Miller ran 4 1/2 miles in the meet and scored in every event.
“The coaching staff is proud of the efforts of the entire team,” Proctor said. “I have never been more proud of a group of young men who rose to the moment and competed.”
Those teams in the Class B competition included Anderson Prep, Elwood, Monroe Central, Shenandoah, Tipton, Wapahani, and Winchester.
The Bears travel to Winchester to take on the Falcons and Tri-High Tuesday.
