A two-out rally in the 6th inning led to 6 runs and a conference victory for Monroe Central’s varsity softball team on Monday. The Lady Bears erased a pair of deficits to defeat Randolph Southern, 9-5.
With two outs and a runner on in the sixth, Faith Cope smoked an RBI double and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. Abreana Gaddis then singled home Cope to tie the game at 5-5. Sam Roderick reached on an error, Mikaela McGrath and JoJo Peckham got back-to-back walks, Cassi Buis collected an RBI single then Adrianna Hardy put the game out of reach with a 2-run single.
In the 7th, the Rebels looked like they might have a rally of their own with a lead-off single, but the runner was thrown out trying to steal. Hardy then picked up the win retiring the top 2 hitters in the Southern line-up.
Southern broke a scoreless tie in the 3rd with a hit, a stolen base, and error, a walk, and a sacrifice bunt.
MC responded as Cope reached on an error, Gaddis singled, Roderick sacrificed the runners up a base, McGrath collected an RBI single and scored on a passed ball, and Peckham had a sacrifice fly to put MC up 3-2.
The Rebels added one in the 5th and two in the 6th to post a 5-3 lead and setting the stage for the Lady Bears comeback.
