Monroe Central’s varsity baseball team erupted for 22-runs in the 4th inning Wednesday night as they rolled over Muncie Burris 33-7.
The Bears, now 8-4, scored 7 times in the first inning and led 11-4 after 3 innings. The 22-run inning put the game out of reach for the Bears.
Freshman Seth Wilson paced the Bears by going 5-for-5 with 5 runs, 3 RBI’s, and 2 stolen bases from the leadoff spot. Brady Jones was 4-for-5 with 4 runs, 6 RBI’s, a double and a triple from the two hole. Logan Conklin was 3-for-5 with 3 runs, 7 RBI’s, a double and a home run, while Derek Goodman was 4-for-6 with 4 runs, 3 RBI’s, a pair of doubles and a home run.
Cody Mieth was 4-for-4 with 5 runs and 2 RBI’s, Casey Conatser had a pair of hits, Lane Lewis was 3-for-6 with 4 runs, and Tyler Haney singled and scored 3 runs.
Conklin started on the hill and went 2 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits, 2 earned runs, and fanning 5. Goodman struck out 2 in 2/3 innings, and Haney threw the final 2 innings giving up 3 hits, 2 earned runs, and striking out 2.
The Bears will now host their annual invitational Saturday at Ball State University. The day will open with MC taking on Southern Wells at 9 a.m.
