Monroe Central’s girls track team ‘unofficially’ set a school record finishing undefeated and as County and MEC Champions.
Monroe Central’s girls track team ‘unofficially’ won the MEC track meet Wednesday evening as it was called before the last relay due to severe weather.
With 1 event to go the Lady Bears led the 8-team field with 117 points. Close behind was Randolph Southern with 113.5 points. Wes-Del sat in 3rd with 75, Daleville was 4th at 67.5, Wapahani in 5th at 66, Blue River 54, Cowan 37, and Union 8.
The meet was called at the conclusion of the 3200 m run.
– Miranda Haney won the High Jump.
– Cierra Burford in the Shot Put with a career best throw.
– Marissa Huddleston won in the 300 Hurdles.
– Katrina Dibiasio won the Long Jump with a MEC record jump of 17′ 2.”
– Aubrey Norris won the 1600 and the 3200
DiBiasio was also injured during the night in the 400 and did not compete in the 100 or 200 finals. Her status going forward is unknown.
Norris’ 3200 performance sent MC over the top. She trailed by about 20 yards and the half-mile point of the last lap, then turned in a fantastic 200 meters to pull away easily to win the event.
Coaches said, “The girls had great team participation as they scored in nearly every event with many personal best times.”
The Girls head into the Delta Sectional next Tuesday.
