Multiple Teams · Bears fall in Senior Day twinbill

It was Alumni Day. It was Senior Day. And it was the last weekend before sectional starts.

The last bit of that means there were a lot of pitchers and a lot of runs between Monroe Central and Frankton. The Eagles swept the twinbill 11-2 and 12-11 where a combined 15 pitchers took the hill.

Game 1 saw a couple key plays lead to an 11-2 win for the Eagles over MC.

Frankton had 3 hits in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Brady Jones’ solo home run knotted the game up after 2 innings.

Frankton’s 5-run third gave them the lead for good. After the first two batters were retired, a pair of singles and a hit batter loaded the bases. A fielder’s choice that could’ve ended the inning instead gave Frankton the first of 5 runs. A pair of doubles and an error saw the Eagles take a 6-1 lead.

The Eagles added a run in the 4th and the 5th again after the first two batters were retired in both innings.

Trailing 8-1, Wyatt Snyder singled, advanced on an error and went to 3rd on a single by Casey Conatser. Frankton conceded the run in a double steal as Snyder scored the Bears 2nd and last run of the game.

Derek Goodman  threw 5-plus innings with Cody Mieth working the final inning and two-thirds. Frankton threw 4 pitchers over 7 innings. Frankton’s 2 & 3 hitters Colin Coryell and Conner Love were 7-for-8 and reached on an error, scoring 5 times and driving in 3.

At the plate, MC was limited to Jones’ home run, Loagn Cinklin’s double, and three singles from Snyder, Conatser, and Mieth.

Game two saw Frankton score 4 times in each of the first two innings, and adding two more in the third to take an early 10-0 lead.

In the Bears 3rd, Seth Wilson had an RBI single and Nakya Brown an RBI double to cut the lead to 10-2. Down 11-2 in the 4th, Snyder reached on a dropped third strike and eventually scored on Wilson’s RBI single.

In the 5th, Conklin hit a lead off home run and with two outs Goodman hit a 2-run bomb to make it 11-6.

Frankton added a single tally in the 6th, but the Bears again responded. Wilson singled and stole second, Brown walked, and Conklin had a 2-run triple. Conatser’s sacrifice fly made it a 12-9 game.

In the 7th, Brayton Miller walked for the 3rd time in the game, pinch runner Nick Cox advanced to 2nd on a passed ball, then scored on Wilson’s double. Wison later scored on an error but the Bears rally fell short in a 12-11 loss.

Tyler Bunner, Tucker Young, Mieth. Brown and Beau Combs all pitched in game 2.

At the plate, Wilson was 4-for-5 with 3 RBI’s, Conklin was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI’s, and Miller was 1-for-1 with a double and three walks.

The Bears (15-11) will open sectional play in the Class 2A Sectional 40 at Frankton on Wednesday as they play game 2 against Shenandoah.
