Monroe Central’s boys matched the Lady Bears in the fact they will have to win three games to claim stake to a sectional championship.
Sunday evening the IHSAA released the pairings for the upcoming Class 2A Sectional #40 at Lapel. The 6-team field provides what is considered to be one of the toughest sectionals in the state.
Monroe Central currently is ranked 10th, Wapahani is ranked 11th, Frankton is ranked 18th, and Lapel, who is not currently ranked, is the defending 2A state champs and will be a force to be reckoned with especially on their home court.
Opening night could see one of the top games around when the host Bulldogs (14-8) take on 11th ranked Wapahani (15-4) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28. That same night the 10th ranked Bears (19-2) will face the Muncie Burris Owls (3-18).
On Friday, March 3 the 6 p.m. game will see Sheridan (9-12) taking on the winner of Lapel-Wapahani and at 7:30 p.m 18th ranked Frankton (15-6) will face the MC – Burris winner. The championship will be Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m.
Lapel has defeated Frankton, Wapahani, and Sheridan by an average of 31.3 points. The Bears only game against a sectional foe was a 63-60 loss at Wapahani.
The Bears boast the 33rd best defense in the state and the 31st best winning margin, while also posting the 4th best record in the state.
Anyone who attended the girls sectional – I believe the ladies have set the stage for what is to come in a very competitive boys sectional as well.
