Multiple Teams · 12th ranked Knightstown holds off Lady Bears, 9-8; Buis homers in JV 20-6 win

Class 2A 12th ranked Knightstown (3-0) fended off a furious rally by Monroe Central Saturday to win 9-8.

It was the Lady Bears season opener and nerves may have got the better of MC early as coach Monte Gaddis said, “(We) fell behind early after giving up seven runs in the first two innings to Knightstown on only two hits.”

But the Lady Bears never gave up and outscored Knightstown 8-2 the rest of the way, including a 4-run 7th inning that put them within a run.

The Lady Bears were led in hitting by Lexi Paine and Jocelyn Peckham with 3 hits each. Samantha Roderick, Jordyn Barga, and Cassi Buis each added 2 hits.

In the JV game, the Lady Bears defeated Knightstown, 20-6.
Laura Stoops led MC in hitting with 3 hits. Freshman Mabrey Buis belted her first home run of the season.
Tonight the Lady Bears will play at Shenandoah (2-1). The game will be atDietrich Park in Middletown. From the high school diamond, travel north 4 miles on Raider Road into Middletown. You will come to a 4-way stop at Locust Street. Turn right onto Locust Street. The park is 2 blocks and on your right.

It will be a busy week as MC hosts Cowan (0-2) on Tuesday then travels to Yorktown (2-1) on Thursday. Saturday the varsity and JV will host county rival Winchester (0-0).
