In a varsity / JV double header, the Lady Bears took both games from Winchester on Saturday.
In the varsity game, which was a Randolph County first round preview, the Lady Bears were led by sophomore Jordyn Barga in a 17-6 win.
On the mound, Barga allowed only three earned runs, striking out 8 and at the plate adding 3 RBI’s on 2 hits.
The Falcons struck in the top of the 1st inning after a lead off walk eventually scored on a base hit and wild pitch, but Barga shut things down striking out 3 to end the inning. In the bottom of the first, the Lady Bears would take the lead with a double by Faith Cope, Samantha Roderick would reach first on a sacrifice bunt, steal 2nd and both would score on a single from Barga.
In the 2nd inning, the Falcons scored 2 runs on two singles, but again the Lady Bears would take the lead back in the bottom of the inning. Mabrey Buis led off with a double and Laura Stoops reached on an error. Roderick walked then Buis and Stoops scored on a base hit from Jo Jo Peckham. Roderick scored on a wild pitch to put MC up 5-3.
Winchester tied the game up with 2 more tallies in the 3rd after a couple Lady Bear miscues in the field.
The Lady Bears pushed 3 runs across to go up 8-5 in their half of the inning. After a lead off walk to Cassi Buis, Lexi Paine reached first safely on a sacrifice bunt. Paige Willen slapped a base hit scoring Buis and Stoops again reached on another Falcon error. Cope reached base and another error pushed both Willen and Stoops across the plate.
An offensive explosion in the 4th saw MC put up 9 runs to push the score to 17-5. Both Barga and Peckham singled, and Cassi Buis and Paine both reached safely on sacrifice bunts. Stoops reached for the 3rd time of the game on an infield hit, then Cope smashed a double grabbing 2 RBI’s. Roderick walked, Peckham was hit by a pitch, and Barga hit a sacrifice fly scoring Roderick. Adrianna Hardy singled pushing across the Bears 9th run of the inning.
In the top of the 5th inning the Falcons pushed 1 run across to bring the final score to 17-6.
The Lady Bears record stands at 2-2 and they travel to face conference foe Wes-Del on Monday.
In the Junior Varsity game, the Lady Bears won 15-4.
Lauren Yates got the victory on the mound for the Bears and added a single, 3 walks, and 3 runs scored.
Mabrey Buis had 2 doubles and 2 singles scoring 3 times while Laura Stoops added 3 singles and a walk. Paige Willen added 2 RBI’s and reached base safely 4 times on 2 walks, a hit by pitch and a single.
The Lady Bears put up 12 runs in the first inning on 6 hits. They added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning in improving to 2-0.
