Multiple Teams · Bears rally in 7th to sweep AC; win streak extended to 4

For the second time this year Monroe Central swept a doubleheader – and did so in heroic fashion.

In the twinbill opener, senior Derek Goodman held Adams Central to one run over 6 innings in a 7-3 win. Game two saw the Bears use a 3-run 7th inning erasing an early 5-1 deficit to win 6-5.

The opener saw consecutive RBI doubles from Logan Conklin and Wyatt Snyder put the Bears on top 2-0. After a walk and a pair of hits, Adams Central trimmed the lead to one.

But the Bears came back in the bottom of the 4th with four more runs to extend their leas to 6-1. Tucker Young and Nick Cox were hit on back-to-back pitches, then Cody Mieth sacrificed pinch runner Noah McCollum and Cox to 2nd and 3rd. Casey Conaster then picked up 2 RBI’s after putting down a perfect bunt that scored both McCollum and Cox.

With two outs, Keith Friddle reached on an error and pinch runner LOgan Patterson  scored on Seth Wilson;s double. Conklin then drove home Wilson with a single.

In the 5th, Goodman doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Cox

Two hits, a balk and a pair of errors allowed two final inning runs to score for the Jets.

Conklin finished 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI’s, Wilson was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI, and Conatser was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs.

Goodman  allowed four hits and one earned run in 6 innings with three walks and three strikeouts. Wilson threw the final inning allowing 2 hits, two runs, and fanning one.

The 2nd game saw Adams Central take advantage of two early errors, three hits, two walks and a hit batter to go up 4-0 in the first inning. A two out single in the 2nd inning ended in another run for the Jets.

MC cut the deficit to 4-1 in the 1st when Wilson reached on an error, stole 2nd, and later scored.

The 3rd inning saw Taft Manship get a lead off double and pinch runner Noah McCollum scored on a snbgle by Conklin. The Bears made it 5-3 in the 5th when Wilson singled and scored on a wild pitch.

In the 7th down two runs, Wilson doubled for his 3rd hit of the game and scored on Conklin’s double, which was his 3rd hit of the game. Batting 1-2, Wilson and Conklin reached base all 8 times they batted and accounted for 6 hits, 4 runs, and 2 RBI’s.

The inning continued wth a base hit from Snyder. Goodman was then intentionally walked to load the bases. Cox laid down a squeeze bunt that got the run in to tie the game and he reached safely. Snyder was thrown out at home trying to score as well on the bunt. Young was intentionally walked to load the bases again setting up another squeeze attempt by Conatser who fouled off the pitch. Feeling the squeeze was coming again, the Jets pitched tried a pick off attempt when Goodman broke from 3rd; however, the 3rd baseman was not paying attention and Goodman scored the winning run as the ball rolled away.

Cody Mieth pitched a complete game allowing 10 hits, 5 runs with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.

MC improved to 8-3 on the year and will host Northeastern next Monday.
