The Monroe Central JV Lady Bears finished as runners-up Saturday in an 8-team tourney at Elwood.
The JV Ladies opened by rolling past Alexandria 14-3 and then put down host Elwood 14-7. The JV Ladies eventually lost to Shenandoah 8-2 in the championship game.
In the first contest, Lauren Yates got the victory on the mound for the Bears striking out 5 and only allowing 2 earned runs. Mabrey Buis had 2 doubles and 1 home run with 6 RBI’s. Laura Stoops added 3 hits with a single, double and triple. Riley Manship and Cassi Buis both added 2 hits.
In the second game, the Lady Bears weren’t very friendly to host Elwood, putting them down 14-7. Adrianna Hardy got the victory on the mound striking out 4. Ashleigh Comer led the way for the Bears with 3 hits. Stoops, Paige Willen, and Mabrey Buis, each added 2 hits.
In the championship game, it got dark as the Bears played until almost 9 p.m. against Shenandoah. The JV Ladies struck first grabbing 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, but failed to score anymore after that.
Willen threw a great game on the mound, but the Bears defense had a collapse in the last 3 innings with 6 errors allowing 5 runs in those innings.
The JV’s potent offense was stopped by the Raiders allowing only 5 hits. Yates, Willen, Mabrey Buis, Emalyn Watson and Jessica Reck all reached base safely.
