Northeastern took advantage of their opportunities Monday night and scored 10 times in their final 3 at-bats to snap Monroe Central’s 4-game win streak, 12-7.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead when Logan Conklin singled, stole second and scored on Brady Jones’ triple. MC added three more runs in the second when Casey Conatser and Tucker Young each singled, Seth Wilson had an RBI single and Conklin had a two-run triple.
After the Knights cut the lead to 4-2, a double from Conatser and and RBI single from Young made it a 5-2 game.
In the 5th for the Knights a pop up that fell in the infield led to a 2-out rally. Northeastern had 3 consecutive doubles and an RBI single to score four times and take a 6-5 lead.
MC tied in the their half of the 5th as Jones walked, Derek Goodman doubled, and Jones scored on Nick Cox’s squeeze.
A single, sacrifice, and RBI single put the Knights back on top 7-6 in the top of the 6th – but once again the Bears responded. Wilson led off with a single and stole second, Wilson came around to score on Wyatt Snyder’s base hit to left.
The top of the 7th started with a walk and an errant throw on a sacrifice bunt. In the inning the Knights capitalized to score five times on only two hits. There were two errors, 3 stolen bases, a wild pitch and the two hits that gave the Knights the 5-run win.
Sophomore Tyler Haney started and allowed 8 hits but only 1 earned run while walking 3 and striking out 3. Wilson worked in relief allowing 4 hits and four earned runs over 2 innings while walking 3 and fanning 3.
At the dish, Wilson was 3-for-4 with 2 runs, 1 RBI, and a pair of stolen bases. Conklin was 2-for-4 with a run, 2 RBI’s, a triple and a stolen base and Goodman had two hits with a double, Conatser had two hits and two runs and Young had 2 hits with a run and an RBI. Snyder and Jones each had one hit as MC outhit Northeastern, 13-12.
The Bears, 8-4, will host Muncie Burris on Wednesday.
