The Monroe Central Lady Bears scored early and never looked back Tuesday in a 12-6 win over Hagerstown in a make-up game.
Juniors Samantha Roderick lead the way with 4 hits at the plate and Faith Cope getting the victory on the mound.
The Lady Bears go to 5-3 on the season with the win.
After falling behind 1-0, the Lady Bears put up 6 runs. Faith Cope led off with a single, followed by Samantha Roderick’s double then back to back singles from Jo Jo Peckham and Jordyn Barga. Roderick came up for her 2nd at bat of the inning and smashed a single that drove in a run.
In the top of the 3rd inning, the Tigers would push across 1 run on 2 base hits and an MC error. But the Bears added a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning with Cope reaching on an error and eventually scoring on a wild pitch. Roderick’s 3rd hit of the game drove in a run making the MC lead 7-2.
Hagerstown trimmed the deficit to 7-3 in the 4th, but once again MC added to their lead with four runs. Mabrey Buis got a 1-out hit followed by hits from Willen, Paine and Cope. Roderick sent home 2 more with her 4th hit of the contest bringing the score to 11-3.
With the score at 11-4, Jordyn Barga singled, Cassi Buis sacrificed her to second, then Willen’s hard hit was mishandled sending home the 12th run for MC.
It was the 2nd straight win for the Lady Bears who still have 4 games scheduled this week.
