A pair of big innings lifted Monroe Central to an MEC victory Wednesday evening over Wes-Del, 15-7.
The Bears stayed in the race for the MEC crown improving to 2-1 and 11-5 overall. Daleville is currently 4-0 in the MEC and Wapahani is second at 4-1.
After the Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 lead, the Bears came back with 5 runs behind a 2-run double from Brady Jones and a 2-run single by Casey Conatser.
Wes-Del put up four more runs in the 2nd off starter Seth Wilson to take a 7-5 lead.
Cody Mieth and Chandler Hoel then combined over the last 5 innings to blank the Warriors allowing only five hits and fanning two.
The Bears tied it up at 7-7 in the fourth inning as Mieth doubled and one out later Logan Conklin drove Mieth home. Conklin stole second and scored on a single from Jones.
In the 5th inning, MC erupted for 7 runs to pull out to a 14-7 lead. The inning included 4 key hits, 4 stolen bases, four wild pitches, 3 passed balls, five walks, and an error. Seth Wilson, Jones and Conklin each had an RBI singles.
The Bears added one more run in the 6th as Mieth walked, advanced on a passed ball, and scored on one of two Wes-Del errors in the inning.
Jones was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and 4 RBI’s to lead the way. Wilson, Conklin, Nick Cox and Casey Conatser each had two hits.
The Bears, 11-5, are scheduled to compete in the Randolph County Tournament this Saturday at Winchester. The Bears will open with Union City at 11 a.m.
