Monroe Central continued the drive toward what could be their first MEC title Thursday night when they defeated Daleville, 11-1, on the road.
The Lady Bears are now 5-0 in the conference with a game at Union on Monday which with a win could give them the outright title.
Sophomore Jordyn Barga got the victory on the mound for the Bears allowing only 6 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 9.
The Lady Bears belted 3 home runs with freshmen Paige Willen and Mabrey Buis going deep, and Jocelyn Peckham adding a bomb. .
Faith Cope led the Bears in hitting with 3 hits.
Cope got MC on the board scoring on Peckham’s sacrifice fly. With the game at 1-1, Lexi Paine wast hit by a pitch, Adrianna Hardy walked, then Cope would get her 2nd hit of the contest pushing Paine across the plate giving the Lady Bears a 2-1.
The powerful Lady Bears offense would come alive in the top of the 3rd inning sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring 8 runs. Peckham led off with a single, Lauren Yates, a courtesy runner, stolel 2nd on the first pitch. Barga smashed a double into right center scoring Yates, then stole third. Buis reached on an error to set the table for freshman Paige Willen to hit her 1st high school home run.
Lexi Paine walked, and with 2 outs, Cope collected an RBI double. Samantha Roderick doubled scoring Cope then Peckham followed with the 2nd home run of the inning giving the Lady Bears a commanding 10-1 lead.
In the top of the 6th inning, Buis would lead off with the Lady Bears 3rd home run of the game to put the Bears up 11-1.
The Lady Bears, 9-6, are back in action at 5 p.m. Friday at Winchester against Union City in thesemi-finals of the Randolph County Tourney. The winner will face Randolph Southern immediately following for the County Championship.
