One bad inning led to five runs Friday night as Shenandoah defeated Monroe Central, 7-4, in the Class 2A Lapel Sectional.
A pair of errors, 3 hit batsmen, and an infield hit all played part in a 5-run inning for the Raiders. The Bears got on the board when a 2-out error on a ball hit by Tucker Young saw Wyatt Snyder race home to make it a 5-1 game.
Two more runs for the Raiders made it 7-1 before the Bears got going in the bottom of the sixth. Casey Conatser and Nick Cox combined to drive in 3 runs and make it a 7-4 game.
In the bottom of the 7th, a hit and back to back walks loaded the bases and gave MC fans hope, but the Raiders were able to get out of the inning unblemished and advanced to Monday’s semi-finals against Wapahani who defeated Muncie Burris 10-1.
Cody Mieth pitched two scoreless innings to start the game before the rough third chased the southpaw senior. Derek Goodman came in and worked in relief the rest of the way.
The Bears ended the season 14-11.
