Monroe Central ‘s boys cross country team took first place in a 4-way meet Wednesday on their home course.
The Bears won with a score of 27, while Winchester followed at 62, Union County had 64, and Union City came in with 84 points.
Junior Conner Miller led the way placing 2nd in 17:48, while juniors Dalton Winans was 3rd (17:55), and Zake Kear was 4th (17:59).
Junior Riley Moulton was 10th in 19:03, freshman Caden Shumaker was 8th in 18:44, and seniors TJ Thompson were 13th in 19:44 and Gavin Sampley was 11th in 19:16.
Rounding out the Bears lineup were sophomore Noel Childress 20th in 21:31, and senior Caleb Winans -21st in 21:33.
“The Bears did an excellent job of hosting their only regular season meet tonight. Both teams ran well in less than ideal running conditions,” said coaches Ron and Ross Braun. “All runners improved their times from a month ago at the Meister Invite on the tough MCXC course.
“Caden Shumaker, Gavin Sampley, Saje Sampley and Hannah Bolton improved their season best times in the cold rain.”
The Lady Bears finished 2nd on the night with senior Aubrey Norris taking top individual honors.
Union County won the meet with 30 points, beating Monroe Central at 43 and Union City at 59. Winchester did not have a complete team.
Norris won the race in 20:49, 29 seconds ahead of the 2nd place runner.
Sophomore Hannah Bolton was 8th in 22:07, while sophomore Gabby Beckham was 9th in 22:08. Juniors Madyson Davison was 17th in 24:38 and Adriahn Hindsley was 13th in 23:56. Freshman Emma Formaneck was 22nd in 26:05, sophomore Saij Sampley was 20th in 25:08, and freshman Claudia Lambert was 25th in 30:59.
Both teams will be competing this Saturday at the Blackford Invitational.
