Monroe Central traveled to Blackford Saturday for boys and girls cross country invitationals.
The Bears took 2nd in the event only to Mt. Vernon gy one point in the 18-team event. The Lady Bears placed 4th out of 8 teams, missing 3rd place by only 1 point
Senior Aubrey Norris took the girls title with a time of 20:34, while sophomore Gabby Beckham was 11th in 21:59 and sophomore Hannah Bolton was 19th in 22:33.
Junior Adriahn Hindsley was 46th 24:12, Saij Sampley was 48th in 25:12, and junior Madyson Davison was 56th in 26:04. Freshman Claudia Lambert also ran for the Lady Bears.
Junior Conner Miller led the Bears finishing 4th in 17:31, while juniors Dalton Winans (17:34) and Zane Kear (17:39) placed 5th and 7th, respectively.
Junior Riley Moulton was 23rd in 18:28, freshman Caden Shumaker was 24th in 18:28, senior TJ Thompson was 46th in 19:05 and senior Gavin Sampley was 56th in 19:51. Senior Caleb Winans also ran for the Bears.
“(We) showed up at the Blackford Invite ready to compete Saturday morning. The boys team was hungry for a first place finish and barely missed that goal by one point losing to Mt. Vernon, 62-63,” said Coach Ron Braun. “The boys were led by Conner Miller with Dalton Winans, Zane Kear, Riley Moulton and Caden Shumaker also havin great runs rounding out the top five. Riley slipping by Caden only by three-tenths of a second.
“The girls team was ready to compete, as well. The girls barely missed the top three by one point, coming in behind Frankton. The girls were led by Aubrey Norris who was the Blackford Invitational girls champion . Gabby Beckham had a great race breaking the twenty-two minute mark. Rounding out the top five were Hannah Bolton, Adrian Hindsley, and Saij Sampley.”
The teams will compete at Centerville Tuesday in a weekday invitational.
