Monroe Central’s girls’ cross country team had a rough day losing two runners to injury during the race. In the end, the Lady Bears placed 7th out of 10 complete teams.
South Adams won the title with 34 points way ahead of the rest of the field. Southern Wells was 2nd at 121, Heritage was 3rd at 130, Adams Central and Northfield finished with 135 points apiece, Bluffton had 140, MC 148, Parkway (OH) 170, Union City 172, and Eastbrook 190.
Senior Aubrey Norris finished second out of 89 runners. Norris recorded a time of 21 minutes to finish behind South Adams sophomore Kallee Patch who won in 20:35.
Sophomore Gabby Beckham was 14th (22:10), freshman Emma Formanek was 38th (24:38), junior Adriahn Hindsley was 59th (25;54), junior Madyson Davison was 62nd (26:18), and Claudia Lambert was 87th (32:14).
Sophomores Hannah Bolton and Saij Sampley both went down with injuries during the race and did not finish.
“The girls team suffered a big hit today with two of our top eight runners falling out of the race due to injury,” said coach Ron Braun. “Hannah Bolton and Saij Sampley faced knee and ankle injuries mid meet and did not finish the race. We hope the girls recover well and we see them back on the course next week.
“Aubrey Norris led us with another impressive run finishing second out of 89 runners. Gabby Beckham was also in the top 25.”
