Multiple Teams · Lady Bears beat Lapel, fall to 2nd ranked Tigers in sectional final


It was the joy of victory and agony of defeat all within just a few hours for Monroe Central’s volleyball team Saturday. The Lady Bears defeated a heralded Lapel team in the Sectional semi-finals before falling to the 2nd ranked Alexandria Tigers.
Alexandria was led by Nebraska-bound Megan Miller in defeating the Lady Bears, 25-17, 25-14, 25-22.
Junior Jordyn Barga led the Lady Bears in the title match with 7 kills, 8 digs, and a block.  Junior Miranda Haney had 6 kills, 4 digs, and 2 aces, while junior Mikayla Fields had 21 assists and 12 digs.
Alexandria improved to 30-7, while the Lady Bears ended their season at 18-16.
In the semi-final match, MC defeated Lapel 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22.
Lapel ended the year at 21-9.
Haney led the way with 15 kills, 13 digs and three blocks. Barga also had 15 kills and 13 digs, while senior Abigail McGrath had 11 kills. Junior Samantha DiBiasio and sophomore Katie Pike combined for 25 digs.
Sectional totals
Haney led the way with 22 kills, 17 digs, and 3 blocks and 3 aces. Barga had 22 kills, 22 digs, 2 blocks and 1 ace. McGrath registered 15 kills, 3 digs, 4 blocks, and 1 ace. DiBiasio and Pike led the defense combining for 36 digs and 5 service aces.
