Saturday history will be made at the IHSAA Semi-State hosted by New Haven as both Monroe Central boys and girls cross country teams will compete. The semi-state will be at the IPFW complex in Fort Wayne with the boys race at 1 p.m. and the girls slated for 1:45 p.m.
For the Lady Bears, who finished 5th at the Delta Regional, it will be the team’s first-ever semi-state appearance.
The Lady Bears will be competing against Yorktown, Pendleton Heights, Delta, Mt. Vernon, Penn, Northridge, Mishawaka Marian, South Bend Adams, Concord, FW Carroll, Homestead, FW Dwenger, Concordia Lutheran, East Noble, Oak Hill, Huntington North, South Adams, FW Luers, and Norwell.
Competing for MC will be senior Aubrey Norris, juniors Madyson Davis and Adriahn Hindsley, sophomores Gabby Beckham, Hannah Bolton, and Saij Sampley, and freshman Emma Formanek.
Monroe Central boys cross country runners advanced to the semi-state for the 4th time in school history placing 4th in the Delta Regional at the Sports Plex.
Joining the Bears at IPFW will be Pendleton Heights, Mt. Vernon, Muncie Central, Wapahani, Penn, Northridge, Concord, Wawsee, Goshen, Westview, FW Carroll, Concordia Lutheran, Homestead, West Noble, Huntington North, Bellmont, Wabash, Oak Hill, and New Haven.
Running for the Bears will be seniors Gavin Sampley and Caleb Winans, juniors Conner Miller, Dalton Winans, Zane Kear, and Riley Moulton, and freshman Caden Shumaker.
In the final ECI runner polls, the Bears finished 2nd and the Lady Bears were 3rd. Muncie Central, the sectional champions, finished 1st, and Yorktown’s girls took first.

TIME: 1:00 pm – Boys’ Race
1:45 pm – Girls’ Race
PLACE: IPFW Campus – the Plex, 1807 E California Rd, Ft. Wayne, IN 46825-5877
PARKING: Due to their being only one entrance into the Plex, please inform your patrons to plan on arriving earlier then normal due to the possible increase of traffic into the Plex and also inform them that car pooling would be a good idea in order to save room for parking. There is additional parking at IPFW. Spectators may use the Ron Venderly Family Bridge to cross over to the Plex. The bridge parking lot is located off the Anthony Blvd. entrance.
ADMISSIONS: Remind your fans that the IHSAA is now collecting a $5 admission for each person coming to the Plex. Please tell your fans to have cash with them when they arrive. Those parking in the Plex will pay when they arrive in their cars. Those parking outside the Plex will pay when they arrive onto the Plex grounds. We can only accept cash.
ADVANCEMENT: The first six (6) qualifying teams and the first ten (10) individuals that finish from non-advancing teams shall advance to the state meet in Terre Haute.
AWARDS: Will be held on the field by the start line as soon as possible (approximately 20-30 minutes after the last race has finished). Coaches remind your runners, no hats or sun glasses are to be worn during the awards presentation.
