Junior Seth Wilson scored Monroe Central’s first four touchdowns Friday night and the 4th ranked Bears advanced to the Class 1A Sectional 44 title game for the 3rd straight year. MC rolled to a 42-12 win over Clinton Prairie in the cold and rainy sectional semi-finals.
Wilson got things started with a pair of 5 yard touchdown runs to help the Bears out to a 14-0 first quarter lead, Wyatt Snyder ran in the conversion after Wilson’s 2nd score of the quarter at the 4:17 mark.
Wilson added two more scores in the 2nd quarter, as he raced in from 8 yards and then got loose for a 60 yard score. Israel Nash got the 2-point conversion after the first score, while Snyder kicked the PAT after the second to make it 29-0 at the half.
In the 3rd quarter, Casey Conatser found Snyder for a 22 yd TD pass and it was 35-0 Bears. Early in the 4th, Conatser connected with Kamron Caldwell on a 25 yd TD strike. Snyder added the PAT and the Bears led 42-0.
A fumble inside the 20 and the Gophers recovering an onside kick led to a pair of late scores and the final 30-point margin.
On the night, 9 Bears ran the ball totaling 254 yards. Wilson had 15 carries for 154 yards. Snyder ran 6 times for 64 yards, Nash had 20 yards on 3 carries and Keegan Kane had 14 yards on 2 carries,
QB Conatser was 13-of-18 on a wet night for 229 yards and a pair of scores . Nick Mitchell led the receiving corps with 86 yards, while Caldwell finished 62, Kaden Conklin had 27, and with 22 each were Snyder and Wilson.
Taft Manship led the defense with 12 tackles, while Conklin recorded 11. Wilson had 9 tackles and with 8 apiece were Mitchell, Tucker Young, and Logan Swallow. Kobe Brown had 7, Matt Poole recorded 6 and Snyder finished with 5.
Nash had an interception and Conklin forced a fumble.
The Bears (10-1) will now travel to face Sheridan (9-2) in the sectional final.
