Multiple Teams · Bears travel to Sheridan for 7:30 p.m. title game; fan bus leaves at 5


4th ranked Monroe Central (10-1) will travel to 6th ranked Sheridan (9-2) Friday night for a titanic battle in the Class A Sectional 44 title game set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

A fan bus will leave Monroe Central at 5 p.m. for any adults or students who want a ride to the game.

It is a tale of teams coming from different backgrounds. Sheridan has 9 State titles  and a coach who has been the head coach for 52 years. Monroe Central is just in its 8th full year with a team yet the Bears have won 21 of its last 23 games and is in the title game for the 3rd straight year.

Monroe Central has rushed for 2605 yards and 27 touchdowns, while passing for 2110 yards and 27 touchdowns. The Blackhawks lean to the run (until I mention it here, of course), rushing for 2863 yards compared to 993 pass yards this season. Sheridan has rushed for 43 TDs and thrown for 14 touchdowns.

Defensively, Sheridan has 18 interceptions and 10 fumble recoveries while the Bears have recorded 17 interceptions and recovered 16 fumbles.

On the Blackhawks front, 6′ 1, 145 pound junior Drake Delph is behind center and has completed 63-of-114 passes for 993 yards, 14 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He is also the 2nd leading rusher with 286 yards on 71 attempts with 2 touchdowns.

The Bears will have to stay low on the defensive side as senior Joe Callahan, 5′ 9, 170 pounds, has rushed 245 times for 1730 yards (7.1 yards per carry) and 27 touchdowns. No one else has run the ball more than 36 times this fall.

Senior Ange Gnamkey, 6′ 2, 180 pounds, leads receivers with 15 catches for 316 yards and 4 scores, while 5′ 11, 160 pound senior Broady Perry has 14 catches for 263 yards and four TDs.

On the other side, the Blackhawks are led by 6′ 3, 180 pound junior Nick Burnell who bas 143 tackles. Senior, Chris Starks has 100 tackles and 6′ 2, 250 pound senior Tanner Swindle leads with 8 sacks.
