Saturday boys basketball tipped off in the MEC with its new 10 teams on stage at the Jamboree at Monroe Central.
Despite inclement weather, fans made their way in to watch their schools and get a glimpse of what 2017-18 could bring.
Daleville opened the night defeating Union, 37-10, in the first two quarters. Shenandoah won the second half of play over Randolph Southern, 31-14, while newcomer Eastern Hancock defeated Wes-Del 30-14. Wapahani won over Cowan, 36-16, and Blue River edged a thin Monroe Central team that just finished football the night before, 23-19.
MC may have put one of the youngest teams on display with only one player who had been on the varsity floor for the Bears previously. The kids who stepped up and played did a great job as numerous football players will join the team in the coming week.
Due ot the football success, Monroe Central will not open the season until Friday, December 1 at Daleville.
