Girls 8th Grade Basketball · 8th grade ladies now 4-0; 7th grade falls by 2 points


Monroe Central’s junior high girls split a pair of games with Liberty Christian Thursday evening at home.

“The 8th grade played another great defensive game,” said Coach Bracken Barga. “(We) held the Lions to just 20 total points.”

MC won the game, 42-20, to improve to 4-0.

Leading scorers for the Lady Bears were Catherine Duncan with 14, Taryn Armour with 10, Sami Farmer with 6, Kristin Northcutt, Macy Shinn, and Lexi  Conatser with 4 each, and Alex McGrath with 3.

The 7th grade Lady Bears lost to Liberty Christian, 19-17.

“(We) played a great game, and had a very close second half,”said Coach Emma Rae Roberts. “The girls showed a lot of improvement in this game.”

Caylie Newsome and Leah Osborne both scored 5 points, Lydia Price scored 3 points, and Breanna Hale and Sophie Budreau each scored 2 points.

The Lady Bears will play at 9 a.m. in the first round of the Monroe Central Invitational Saturday against Southern Wells. Yorktown and Muncie North are also in the tournament.
