Two Monroe Central cross country runners competed Saturday, December 9 in Tallahassee, Florida at the University of Florida in the USATF Nationals.
Senior Aubrey Norris finished with a time of 20:44 and in 18th place in her division, which earned her USATF All-American status. Norris had previously said her goal was to finish in the top 25.
Norris finished 3rd in the Regional at Columbus, Indiana which qualified her for the Nationals. Norris was 2nd in the State competition at Shelbyville in the 17-18 year old division which competed in 3.1 mile races (5K).
She qualified for semi-state all four years of her high school career, helped the girls team reach the semi-state this fall for the first time in school history, and could earn a three-peat for All-State.
It was her second year in a row competing in the Nationals after running in Alabama last year.
Carter Miller, an 8th grader at Monroe Central, competed in the 13-14 age group. Miller finished 211th out of 401 competitors. His time was 13:29 in the 4K (2.5 miles).
He previously finished 25th out of close to 100 runners at Columbus in the Regional.
The weather was very un-Florida like as the temperatures were around 42 degrees and 34 with the wind chill.
Congratulations to both MC runners.
