Girls 8th Grade Basketball · 8th grade Lady Bears win EJ Invite, now 14-0


The 8th grade Lady Bears defeated both host East Jay and Selma to win the EJ Invitational on Saturday.

The Lady Bears beat East Jay by a score of 24-22 in the semi-finals.

“(We) struggled to get anything going offensively but figured out a way to win,” said Coach Bracken Barga.

Selma offered a much quicker pace and that turned out to be favorable for the Lady Bears, as they won by a score of 28-15.

“Defense was the key to victory in the championship holding Selma to just 6 points through three quarters,” Barga said.

The wins improve the 8th grade Lady Bears to 14-0 on the year.

The 7th Lady Bears lost their first game against East Jay, 28-2.

“It was a tough game against a big team,” said Coach Emmarae Roberts.

Gracie Baker scored MC’s 2 points.

The Lady Bears lost their second game against Yorktown, 35-3.
“It was a tough game, but the we played hard until the end,” Roberts said.
Sophie Budreau scored 2 points, and Caylie Newsome scored 1 point.
The Lady Bears are back in action at Blackford on Monday.
