Boys Varsity Wrestling · Swallow, Willen, Brown advance to wrestling regional


Senior Kobe Brown and sophomores Jordan Willen and Logan Swallow all advanced from the Delta Wrestling Sectional Saturday to next weekend’s Regional at Jay County.

Yorktown won the 10-team sectional title during the day with 245.5 points, outdistancing runner-up Delta with 211 points.

Muncie Central was 3rd at 177.5, Daleville was 4th at 130.5, Winchester 5th at 118, and Monroe Central placed 6th with 94 points. Rounding out the field were Wes-Del in 7th at 86 points, Cowan 8th at 81, Randolph Southern 9th at 33, and Wapahani 10th at 20.

Sophomore Logan Swallow reached the championship match at 285 pounds and lost a great match to Yorktown’s Holden Parsons, 1-0. Parsons advances at 32-5 while Swallow will compete at regional with a 31-5 record.

Senior Kobe Brown finished 3rd in the 220 pound class. He won the 3rd place match over Randolph Southern’s Rico Rojas by injury default. Brown advances to regional with a 24-9 record.

Sophomore Jordan Willen finished in 4th place in the 132 pound class and will advance to the regional with a 26-10 season record. Willen lost in the 3rd-4th place match to Delta’s Lucas Fox, 5-1.

MC Coach Kevin Driskill said, “It was a rough day for the varsity wrestling team.”

Junior Kamron Caldwell (24-6) won his 5th place match over Daleville’s Joshua Farlee with a 2:53 pin at 170 pounds.

At 152 pounds, junior Tyler Jones (33-6) won his 5th place match over Randolph Southern’s Blake Pruitt by a 9-0 score.

Senior Hunter Tinsman (23-21) won his 5th place match at 145 pounds over Randolph Southern’s Marco Rojas with a pin in 42 seconds.

Freshman RJ Heskett won his 5th place match over Daleville’s Jordan Green at 138 pounds with a 2nd period pin.

 

Freshman Gavin McComb took 6th place after dropping a 12-7 decision to Winchester’s Mark Hampshire in the 160 pound 5th-6th place match.

 

Jacob Keith finished in 7th place during the sectional.

The Regional will be next Saturday at Jay County.
