The Monroe Central varsity track teams opened up their season at the Indiana Wesleyan University State Qualifier meet Saturday in Marion.
“First-time runners and veterans had impressive outings,” said Coach Preston Proctor.
The Lady Bears were led by seniors Aubrey Norris, Bailey Duncan, and Marisa Huddleston in individual events and in relays.
Junior Miranda Haney placed fourth in the High Jump at 5 foot even and freshman Katana Bracero ran a fine 8.95 in the 60 m dash. Sophomore Gabby Beckham and freshman Ruthie Moulton also had fine first-time meets.
The Golden Bear men had many outstanding performances. Junior Kamron Caldwell had personal bests in the Long Jump (19′ 9″) and the 60 m Dash (7.57).
Senior Kobe Brown threw a PR (personal record) in the shot put and performed well in the 4 x 200 m relay. Sophomore Logan Swallow also threw a personal best in the shot (37′ 9″) and junior Malcom Armour jumped another PR in the Long Jump (18′ 2″).
Juniors Conner Miller, Zane Kear and Dalton Winans had good runs also.
The Bears will travel to Purdue University this Saturday to compete in the McCutcheon Maverick State Qualifier.
