A much anticipated start to the season finally got underway for the 2018 Monroe Central boys golf team Thursday. The Bears won a triangular meet with 180 points, defeating South Adams 221 and Union City 2450at Hickory Hills.
Freshman Shawn Roderick opened the year as medalist with a 41 on the MC home course. Freshman Ryder Jones was right behind him with a 42.
Senior Ross Shafer turned in a 46, freshman Khaner Phillips carded a 51, sophomore Roman Braun had a 58, and freshman Landon Taylor teed up a 61.
The Bears, 2-0, will host a 12-team invitational tomorrow at Hickory Hills, weather permitting, at 10 a.m. MC is paired with MEC foes Wapahani and Shenandoah. The rest of the field includes Marion, Delta, Pendleton Heights, Winchester, Daleville, Elwood, Yorktown, Anderson, and Union City.
