Monroe Central scored 7 times in the last two innings Wednesday night to defeat Class A 7th ranked Wes-Del, 9-6. Senior Keith Friddle hit a 3-run home run in the 6th and laid down a 2-run sacrifice in the 7th to help the Golden Bears improve to 3-1 in the conference and 10-6 overall.
Wes-Del hit a 2-run homer in the first inning to get the scoring started. After MC tied the game in the top of the 2nd, Wes-Del went right back in front 4-2 with a pair of runs in their half of the 2nd.
That score held until the top of the 6th when the Bears scored 5 times to lead 7-4. After MC added the two runs in the top of the 7th, the Warriors scored two to make the final deficit 9-6.
Friddle started on the hill and went 2 innings allowing 5 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned runs and he walked one and struck out one. Bryce Deckman threw three scoreless innings allowing two hits and striking out two. Tucker Young picked up the save throwing 2 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 unearned runs and fanning one.
The Bears used 8 hits and showed good discipline at the plate as they walked 12 times. Wyatt Snyder was 2-for-5 with 2 runs, 2 RBI’s, and a stolen base. Casey Conatser was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Friddle had 5 RBI’s on the night, Seth Wilson singled, stole two bases, and scored twice, Young and Deckman each singled and scored, and Braden Case scored a run.
The Bears are off now until Saturday at 11 a.m. when they play Winchester in the semi-finals of the Randolph County Tournament. Randolph Southern plays Union City at 2 p.m. and the County finals will be at 5 p.m.
