Monroe Central softball ended a long week on top of the mountain.
Scoring three times in the bottom of the 7th inning in the semi-final, MC snatched victory from the jaws of elimination. Trailing 4-2, Laura Stoops walked to load the bases. Samantha Roderick got one run in and on a fielder’s choice and error off the bat of Jordyn Barga 2 rus scored sending the Lady Bears to the championship with a 5-4 win over Randolph Southern.
Maggie Ridge led MC going 3-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Mabrey Buis also doubled early in the game.
Barga threw a complete game allowing 4 runs on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts.
The championship saw the Lady Bears score six times in the 5th inning to defeat Winchester, 10-0.
Mbrey Buis drove in the first run of the game in the first inning on an RBI single. MC added single tallies in each the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings. In the 5th, big hits from Cope, Mabrey Buis, Cassi Buis, and Ridge led to 6 runs and a 2nd straight County title.
The Lady Bear offense had no strikeouts while cranking out 18 hits. Cassi Buis led the way going 4-for-4. Barga, Cope, Mabrey Buis, Paige Willen and Roderick each had multi-hit games.
Barga threw a complete game allowing three its and striking out 7 while the defense made no errors in the field.
