Monroe Central withstood a 4-run 7th inning Tuesday night to fend off MEC foe Cowan and earn an 8-7 win.
The win improved the Bears to 12-9 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Wapahani and Shehandoah led with 5-1 marks going into Tuesday’s games, Eastern Hancock was 6-2 and Daleville 3-2 entering the final week of play.The way the schedules are set up there is a chance for multiple MEC champions.
The Bears jumped out early with 3 runs in the 1st and 4 in the 2nd to post a 7-0 lead. Cowan put 2 on the board in the 4th and MC answered with 1 to post an 8-3 lead. No one score again until Cowan put 4 up in the 7th inning.
Freshman southpaw Bryce Deckman started and went 6 innings allowing 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned run, no walks, and he fanned 5. Freshman Caden Shumaker threw the 7th inning with the Blackhawks mustering up 3 hits, 4 runs, and 3 earned runs.
On a night where 8 batters were hit by a pitch, MC took advantage of 10 hits, 2 errors, 4 walks and 6 of th 8 hit batters.
Keith Friddle had 3 hits, while Casey Conatser was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, 2 runs and 3 RBI’s. Seth Wilson doubled and scored, Wyatt Snyder tripled and scored twice, Taft Manship singled and scored, Jordan Willen had an RBI single, Bryce Deckman had 2 RBI’s, Tucker Young scored twice, and Braden Case singled.
The Bears will host Winchester Wednesday and Wapahani in their final regular season game of the year and Senior Night.
