Girls Varsity Track · Lady Bears finish 4th in sectional, several advance to regional

Yorktown captured the IHSAA Girls Delta Sectional title with 159 points Tuesday evening, slipping past Delta with 114 points and Jay County with 109.

Monroe Central finished tied for 4th with Wapahani with 48 points. Rounding out the field were Muncie Central 36, Randolph Southern 29, Winchester 23, Union City 23, Cowan 7, Union 6, Wes-Del 3, and Muncie Burris 3.

Senior Aubrey Norris advanced in 2 events as she finished 2nd in the 1600 meter run and in the 3200 race.

Seniors Miranda Haney placed 2nd in the high jump, Marissa Huddleston was 2nd in the 300 hurdles, and Bailey Duncan may get the opportunity to compete at the regional in the 200 meter dash.

Other finals results from the sectional: 3200 relay team of Gabby Beckham, Madyson Davison, Emma Formanek, Saij Sampley placed 8th; Beckham was 6th in the 400 and 8th in the 1600; the 400 relay team of Duncan, Katana Bracero, Destiny Gillen, and Huddlestone placed 5th; Allison Heoning was 17th in the 400; Cheyenne Ireland was 12th in the 300 hurdles; Sampley was 17th in the 800; the 1600 relay team of Beckham, Duncan, Norris, and Huddleston was 4th; Gillen was 10th in the long jump; and Adriahn Hindsley was 13th in the long jump.

The regional will be next Tuesday at Indianapolis Ben Davis.
