“I couldn’t be prouder,” said Monroe Central coach Shane Haney after Monday’s IHSAA Golf Sectional where the Golden Bears placed 3rd and advanced to the Muncie Central Regional to be held this Thursday at The Players Club.
Muncie Central won the sectional with a 309, Yorktown was second at 331 and the Bears placed 3rd at 342.
Rounding out the field were Delta 351, Wapahani 363, Daleville 370, Winchester 381, Muncie Burris 407, Union City 412, Jay County 414, and Wes-Del 450.
Jack Byrnes of Muncie Central was the sectional champion with a 74 edging out teammate Brody McCoy at 75, and Yorktown’s Bryce Hardwick with a 77.
The other three top individuals who will advance include Delta’s Tyler Jobe (80) and Brady Hunt (83), and Wapahani’s Nick Jackson (83).
Freshman Shawn Roderick shot a team low 81, freshman Khaner Phillips turned in an 83, and freshman Ryder Jones shot an 87. Senior Ross Shafer turned in a 91 and freshman Landon Taylor carded a 102.
Congratulations to the Bears on a great day of golf and achievement
