Girls Varsity Basketball · Lady Bears go 11-1 the last week of June


Monroe Central’s basketball team played 12 games the last week of June as well as a scrimmage.

After scrimmaging Yorktown, MC played in a two-day Blue River event and went to Bethel College for two days of games.

“The girls scrimmaged Yorktown and played very well against them,” said Coach Leigh Ann Barga.

MC was short a few players at Blue River, but went 5-1 over the two days.

On Wednesday the Lady Bears went 3-1, defeating Covington, Bloomfield, and Crawford County while falling to Shenandoah by five points.  On Thursday the Lady Bears went 2-0 with wins over Tri and Tri-Central.

On Friday and Saturday, MC went to Bethel College and played six more games.

On Friday the Lady Bears went 3-0 winning over Huntington North, Central Noble and Rensselaer Central.

“After we played on Friday, the girls got to visit the University of Notre Dame which was a great time,” stated Barga.

On Saturday the Lady Bears went 3-0 defeating Gary West, Elkhart Central, and Carroll of Fort Wayne.

“We had a great summer and a lot of team bonding,” Barga said of the busy month of June.
