The Varsity Golden Bears squared off against state ranked #6 Blackford on Saturday in the Bear Den. The Golden Bears got behind early trailing 19-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Golden Bears were able to cut into the deficit by 3 in the second quarter trailing 30-24 at halftime. The Golden Bears remained within striking distance through the third quarter cutting into the Bruins lead by 1 and trailed 43-38 at the end of the third quarter. The Golden Bears allowed the Bruins to extend their lead to 8 in the fourth quarter but made a run late in the quarter to tie the game at 57-57 and force overtime. The overtime period was much like the fourth quarter going back and forth. The Bruins missed a pair of free throws with 5 seconds left on the clock with which the Golden Bears controlled the rebound and called a timeout with 4.7 seconds left. The Bears got the Ball inbounded and across half court to shoot and make the game winning shot at the buzzer. The Golden Bears defeated Blackford 66-65. All team members contributed crucial minutes and stayed together at all times. The Golden Bears will be back in action the road at Blue River Valley on Friday January 30th. Go Bears!
