The 7th Grade Lady Bears hosted Driver on Wednesday evening for the first round of the Randolph County tournament and defeated the county rivals in convincing fashion, winning 38-4 and improving their record to 18 wins and 1 loss. The young Bears controlled the game early with smothering defense, holding the Hawks scoreless in the first period and only giving up 2 first half points. Mabrey Cheesman led the defensive effort with great ball pressure that led to several steals, deflections, jump balls and 5 second calls. Alexa Tinsman’s help side defense and hustle plays helped keep the Hawks from attempting more than just a few shots on the evening. The great defense continued throughout the game with all 13 girls contributing and maintaining the defensive intensity. Leading the scoring for MC was Delainee Whitehead with 16, Alexa Tinsman with 10, Scarlett Davis with 8 and Mabrey Cheesman and Remmie Morrison with 2 each. The Bears play for the championship when they travel to Union City on Saturday. GO BEARS!!!
