Varsity Baseball falls to Cowan

Monroe Central Varsity Bears Loses Despite Out Hitting Cowan By GameChanger Media Even though Monroe Central Varsity Bears collected 11 hits to Cowan's six, they still fell 11-7 on Tuesday. Jed Ferguson, Myles Oliphant, and Abe Chamberlain each collected two hits for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. Cowan opened the scoring in the first after Thomas Brooks singled, scoring one run. A fielder's choice by Jaydon Auker, and a single by Luke Garrett helped Cowan extend their early lead in the second. Cowan added one run in the third. Brysen Huggins grounded out, making the score 5-1. Brody Clifford earned the win for Cowan. The hurler gave up 10 hits and seven runs (six earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking three. Oliphant took the loss for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. The lefty went four innings, surrendering six runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out eight and walking five. Monroe Central Varsity Bears amassed 11 hits in the game. Alex Middleton drove the middle of the lineup, leading Monroe Central Varsity Bears with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Auker and Garrett were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Cowan. Cowan had patience at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Clifford and Chase Matson led the team with two walks each. Auker, Brooks, and Lucas Terrell each stole multiple bases for Cowan. Cowan stole 10 bases in the game.
