Monroe Central Varsity Bears Make A Run Against Union County But Fall Short By GameChanger Media Monroe Central Varsity Bears's effort to come back from down five runs in the second inning came up just short, as they fell 7-5 to Union County on Monday. Monroe Central Varsity Bears closed the gap by scoring on a single, a single, a fly out, a single, and a single. Monroe Central Varsity Bears lost despite out-hitting Union County nine to eight. Myles Oliphant led Monroe Central Varsity Bears with three hits. Union County jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Cole Cheatham singled, scoring one run, Cam Salsbery singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs. An error extended the Union County lead to 5-0 in the top of the second inning. A walk by Charlie Payne extended the Union County lead to 6-1 in the top of the third inning. Ezra Hensley earned the win for Union County. The starter gave up six hits and one run over four innings, striking out six and walking two. Oliphant took the loss for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. The southpaw went five innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out six and walking five. Monroe Central Varsity Bears accumulated nine hits in the game. Kyler Bogue, Isaac Middleton, Hunter Gard, Oliphant, and Carson Siekmann each drove in one run for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. Monroe Central Varsity Bears had patience at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game. Caleb Luedike and Conner Baker led the team with two bases on balls each. Gunner Miller provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Union County with two runs batted in. Union County's Peyton Williams, the number seven hitter, led Union County with three hits in four at bats. Colton Johnson collected two hits for Union County in three at bats. Payne led Union County with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Union County ran wild on the base paths, amassing five stolen bases for the game. Union County didn't commit a single error in the field. Xander Hounchell had the most chances in the field with 11.
