6th Grade: In the team's first ever volleyball match, the Monroe Central 6th grade volleyball team walked out with a win over Shenandoah in Tuesday night's game! Final set scores were 23-25, 25-19, 15-11. The aces were flying! Preslei Patterson led 12, Lindsey Ulrey 7, Grace Morris 4, and Lilly Ulrey and Jovie Huddleston had 2 apiece. Patterson also got the team's first kill of the season! Every player contributed, and Coach Derek could not be more proud! The 6th grade squad will return to action a week from Thursday when they travel to face Yorktown. 7th Grade: 7th grade Lady Bears Battle Shenandoah in Three Sets The seventh-grade Lady Bears fell to Shenandoah at home in a hard-fought three-set match. The Bears lost the opening set 25-12 before bouncing back to win the second set 25-20. Shenandoah secured the match with a 15-7 victory in the deciding set. The Lady Bears trailed during the second set until Hailey Grove served 12 consecutive points, recording several aces and giving the team the momentum it needed to complete the comeback. The Bears fought hard in the third set but were unable to pull off the victory. Grove led the team with seven aces, four digs, and two kills. Cora Greene contributed six kills, three digs, and one assist, while Jovie Dunlap recorded five assists, one dig, and one additional assist. Jillian Goad finished with four digs and one assist. Finley Whitehead added two digs and one ace, and Berkley Taylor recorded one dig and one ace. 8th Grade: Your 8th Grade Lady Bears grabbed their second win on the season against Shenandoah Raiders in three sets 25-20, 19-25, 15-9. This was a great whole team contribute. Leading the way with 5 kills/ 2 Blocks Alexa Tinsman. Ellie Lanter brought 3 aces to make their season 2-0. Next game is on the road Wednesday against Northeastern to wrap up the week.
