Varsity Football defeats Union City in IHSAA Sectional #45

The Monroe Central football team used a dominant rushing attack from brothers Jerimiah and Justus Ullom to go on the road to defeat Union City, 64-34, in their first-round sectional matchup Friday night. The Golden Bears (5-5) ran for 449 total rushing yards on the night, averaging 14 yards per carry. Jerimiah Ullom had eight rushing attempts for 201 yards with five rushing touchdowns; he also had a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter. Justus Ullom had 10 rushing attempts for 208 yards and two rushing scores; he added another two receptions for 61 yards and a receiving touchdown on the night. Izaiah Mangas had a standout defensive performance for Monroe Central, tallying a combined 20 tackles and a forced fumble. Julius Ullom and Ethan Hunt each had 11 total tackles (two for a loss), while Jerimiah Ullom and Carter Duncan logged interceptions. The Golden Bears advance to play host to Wes-Del in the sectional semifinal next Friday.
