6th Grade: The 6th grade Bears lost in two sets to Selma. Although they didn’t win, these girls show great improvement every game they play. They worked really hard in the second set to come back from a 10 point loss in the second but still fell short with a score of 22 to 25. Maybrey Cheesman and Delainee Whitehead picked up several digs tonight that were crucial in closing that gap up in the second set. These girls as a team show up to every game and every practice ready to grow and learn. We could not be more proud of your 6th grade lady bears! 7th Grade: The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears pulled off an exciting victory over the Selma Braves, winning in two hard-fought sets (25-22, 25-19). The first set was a tight battle, with the score tied 10 different times with six lead changes, keeping the outcome uncertain. Neither team could gain a significant edge until the Lady Bears managed to pull ahead in the closing moments, taking the set 25-22. The second set started with much of the same back-and-forth intensity, until Monroe Central found themselves trailing behind 13-8. However, the Bears clawed their way back, gaining a couple of points before Haidyn Knott went on a commanding 5-point serving streak. This momentum was followed by Bristol Goad’s impressive 6-point serving streak, which gave the Bears a convincing lead. Monroe Central maintained control and closed out the set 25-19, sealing the match. Haidyn Knott led the team with 3 aces and 2 assists, while Izzy McGrath dominated at the net making 11 attacks with 3 kills. Landry Taylor added 2 aces and 1 dig, and Gracie McCreery had some great swings at the ball making 2 kills for the night and 1 ace. Bristol Goad chipped in with 2 aces and 1 dig, Claire Cheesman tallied 1 kill, and Mati McConnell recorded 1 dig. With this victory, the Lady Bears continue to build momentum as they approach the end of their season, showcasing their resilience and teamwork in every match. Lady Bears improve their record to 10-5. 8th Grade: Will update with recap once received.
