7th Grade: The girls 7th grade got their season started last evening with a convincing 54-5 victory over the Burris Owls. All 10 Bears contributed with outstanding defense and were looking to get the ball to open teammates. The team was led in scoring by Mila Morris 14, Claire Cheeseman 12, Mati McConnell 9, Izzy McGrath & Landry Taylor 6, Bristol Goad 5 and Gracie McCreery 2. Brynlee Dumpert, Lillie Moery and Ada Wagner had outstanding floor games. The Bears travel to Randolph Southern Thursday and will play before the 8th grade and varsity games. 8th Grade: The 8th Grade Lady Bears traveled to the historic Ball Gym on Tuesday evening and came away with a conference win, beating host Burris 44-4. MC’s defense and athleticism was too much for Burris to handle, with the Bears clipping the Owl’s wings early and never looking back. Leading the way for MC was Izzy McGrath, with 11 points. Mila Morris added 10 points and Lucy Huston had 9, most coming off of steals and layups. Gracie McCreery scored 8, Elena Simms scored 4 points in her first game and Brynlee Dumpert rounded off the scoring with 2 of her own. The Lady Bears travel to Randolph Southern on Thursday for another MEC matchup with the county rival Rebels. Go Bears!
