Big Fifth Inning Leads Monroe Central Varsity Bears Past Blue River Valley By GameChanger Media Monroe Central Varsity Bears defeated Blue River Valley 11-4 on Thursday thanks in part to six runs in the fifth inning. Mason McCreery drew a walk, scoring one run, Conner Baker singled, scoring two runs, and Caleb Luedike tripled, scoring three runs. Monroe Central Varsity Bears opened the scoring in the first after Lane Wilson singled, scoring one run. A walk by McCreery extended the Monroe Central Varsity Bears lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning. Zentz singled to center field following a 7-pitch at-bat, which helped Blue River Valley tie the game at two in the bottom of the third. Carter Duncan started on the bump for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. The starter gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out nine and walking three. Zentz led things off on the mound for Blue River Valley. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs (one earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking four. Levi Pence appeared in relief for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. Monroe Central Varsity Bears piled up 11 hits in the game. Wilson went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Monroe Central Varsity Bears in hits. McCreery and Luedike each drove in three runs for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. Baker and Logan Walker each collected multiple hits for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. McCreery paced Monroe Central Varsity Bears with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Zentz drove the middle of the lineup, leading Blue River Valley with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-4 on the day. Howe, Zentz, Blackburn, Golliher, Kraus, and Kraus each collected one hit for Blue River Valley. Howe led Blue River Valley with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Monroe Central Varsity Bears will travel to Alexandria-Monroe for their next game on Saturday.
