Strong Hitting Not Enough As Monroe Central Varsity Bears Falls To Union County By GameChanger Media Monroe Central Varsity Bears fell 3-2 to Union County on Monday despite out-hitting them seven to three. Myles Oliphant and Isaac Middleton each collected two hits for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. The pitching was strong on both sides. Union County pitchers struck out eight, while Monroe Central Varsity Bears sat down four. Union County jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the third inning after an error scored two runs, and Xander Hounchell hit into a double play, but one run scored. Coleton Wicker earned the win for Union County. The hurler gave up six hits and one run over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Oliphant took the loss for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. The starter went three innings, allowing three runs (zero earned) on zero hits, striking out two and walking five. Monroe Central Varsity Bears turned one double play in the game. Devan Hill, Cole Cheatham, and Hounchell each collected one hit for Union County. Caeleb Brewer led Union County with two runs batted in. Logan Boone led Union County with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Union County turned two double plays in the game.
