Monroe Central Varsity Bears Lead Slips In Loss To Elwood By GameChanger Media Monday's game against Elwood was a heartbreaker for Monroe Central Varsity Bears, as they lost the lead late in a 9-8 defeat. The game was tied at eight in the top of the sixth when Jackson Gordon was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. Elwood got on the board in the first inning after Bracken Jetty grounded out, scoring one run. Monroe Central Varsity Bears captured the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first after Lane Wilson doubled to center field, and Levi Pence singled to center field, each scoring one run. Monroe Central Varsity Bears added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Carter Duncan grounded out, and Carter Morris scored after tagging up, each scoring one run. A tag up by Logan Walker extended the Monroe Central Varsity Bears lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the third inning. Elwood flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 8-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Dylan Grimes that drove in two. Myles Oliphant tripled down the right field line, which helped Monroe Central Varsity Bears tie the game at eight in the bottom of the fifth. Liam Cannon earned the win for Elwood. The reliever surrendered two hits and one run over three innings, striking out none and walking five. Walker took the loss for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. The hurler went two innings, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking five. Caleb Luedike began the game for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and six runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Grimes led things off on the bump for Elwood. The starter surrendered eight hits and seven runs (six earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking two. Monroe Central Varsity Bears piled up 10 hits in the game. Kyler Bogue and Pence each collected two hits for Monroe Central Varsity Bears. Conner Baker went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Monroe Central Varsity Bears had patience at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game. Morris and Luedike led the team with two walks each. Bogue stole three bases. Monroe Central Varsity Bears ran wild on the base paths, tallying eight stolen bases for the game. Monroe Central Varsity Bears turned one double play in the game. Elwood piled up 10 hits in the game. Grimes provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Elwood with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Aidan Flanagan went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Elwood in hits. Bentlee Pierce and Cannon each collected multiple hits for Elwood. Elwood had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Elwood turned two double plays in the game.
