Varsity Football falls to Winchester

Winchester 40, Monroe Central 6 The Monroe Central football team opened its 2025 season with a 40-6 road loss to Winchester on Friday night. The Golden Falcons (1-0) jumped out to a 26-0 halftime lead, extending it to 33-0 in the third quarter, and then 40-0 late in the fourth quarter before the Golden Bears (0-1) got on the board, as Caleb Luedike ran it in from four yards out for the score. That play capped a seven-play, 67-yard scoring drive for Monroe Central, who had runs of 14, 7, 8, 9, 12, and 13 yards, respectively during that late spurt. Ethan Hunt led the Golden Bears with 58 yards rushing on nine carries. Luedike had 13 rushes for 48 yards and that aforementioned touchdown. Luke Anderson and Travis Reed each had a team-best eight tackles for the Monroe Central defense. Reed also forced a fumble, which was recovered by Griffin Gannom. The Golden Bears play host to Union City next week in their 2025 home opener.
