The Junior Varsity Golden Bear volleyball team traveled to Muncie Central today for a JV Invitational with the following teams participating: Muncie Central, Marion, Monroe Central, Richmond, Greenfield Central and Muncie Burris. In Match 1 (pool play) the Golden Bears faced off with the Bearcats of Muncie Central. Set 1 was super intense and the Bearcats just edged out the win 27-29. The Golden Bears weren't giving up and came back to win sets 2 and 3 with scores of 25-13 and 15-13. In Match 2 (pool play) the Golden Bears faced off with the Giants from Marion. Similar to the first match, the Giants got off to strong start and took set 1 with a score of 18-25. Once again though, the Golden Bears weren't done playing and came back to take sets 2 and 3 with scores of 25-16 and 15-13. This leading to the Golden Bears winning their pool and advancing to the Championship match. In the Championship Match (Match 3) the Golden Bears took on the Owls of Muncie Burris. This is a very solid Muncie Burris team and the Golden Bears initially hesitated in set 1 and that resulted in a score of 6-25. However, the Golden Bears regained their composure and fought hard in set 2 and it showed. Even though they came up short with a score of 20-25, the Golden Bears JV players showed a lot of heart and determination today making them the tournament runner-up. The coaching staff is very proud of all of these girls' efforts today. Some impressive stats from the day were from Junior Zoie Hood who had 6 aces, 8 kills, 11 digs and 14 assists. Sophomore Kyra Brockman had 7 aces, 12 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Sophia Hankins had 2 aces, 16 receptions and 13 digs and Freshman Emma Pugsley had 3 aces, 3 kills, 13 digs and 20 assists. The Junior Varsity Golden Bears will be back in action on Tuesday (9/9) when they will take on the Falcons of Winchester. Their match is scheduled to begin at 6pm.
