7th Grade Lady Bears Fall in Three to Jay County The Monroe Central 7th Grade Lady Bears battled hard at home over fall break but came up short against Jay County, losing in three sets (25-20, 18-25, 10-15). The Bears were led by Mabrey Cheesman with 7 digs, 5 aces, and 1 assist. Blakely Burge added 5 aces, 5 assists, and 1 kill, while Delainee Whitehead contributed 4 digs, 2 aces, and 1 kill. Ellie Lanter led the team in kills with 5 and added 1 ace. Alexa Tinsman had 3 digs, 1 block, and 2 kills. Harper Whitehead chipped in with 1 kill and 1 dig, and Adelyn Pugsley added 1 dig. The Lady Bears are now 14-6 on the season and will finish their year this weekend at the Randolph County Tournament. 8th Grade Lady Bears Sweep Jay County The Monroe Central 8th Grade Lady Bears defeated Jay County in straight sets (25-18, 25-20). It was a strong, well-rounded team effort — especially impressive as the Bears were missing a few teammates and adjusting to a new rotation. Haidyn Knott led the offense, setting all the way around and finishing with 9 assists, 3 kills, and 1 dig. Claire Cheesman played solid all-around with 4 digs and 3 kills. Callie Grove had a great serving night with 4 aces, adding 1 kill and 1 dig. Izzy McGrath dominated at the net with 5 kills and 1 block. Mati McConnell stepped up at the service line with 4 aces and 1 dig, while Alyssa Chalfant added 2 aces and 2 digs. Gracie McCreery chipped in with 2 kills and 1 ace, and Anna Wines added 1 assist.
